TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Hello! I'm Jennifer Sykes, a former literacy specialist. I found my passion creating resources and games that are engaging, relevant, and easy to adapt to meet the needs of all learners. I have 17 years of experience teaching struggling readers in grades 2-5. I love working with teachers to boost the vocabulary of their entire class, so be sure look through my store for mystery words and vocabulary boosts. Thank you!

I am particularly passionate about developing the vocabulary of all learners, which sets the stage for future successes! Over the years, I have been an Upper Elementary Literacy Specialist, Upper Elementary Literacy Coach, and classroom teacher/co-teacher in grades 1-5. I love to work closely with teachers in implementation of best practices in Literacy, including Guided Reading, Vocabulary Development, Digging Deeper in Utilizing Student Data, and Focusing on Comprehension. I blog about all things literacy at Hello Mrs Sykes

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I was supported and cared for by some exceptional teachers over the years, and I knew I wanted to make that difference for others. If it weren't for my first teachers (my parents!) I would not have graduated from High School on time! I was ready to toss in the towel after my attempts to learn world history, but they believed in me, and for that, I am forever grateful!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I love learning and teaching with others. Visit my blog, www.hellomrssykes.com, for upper elementary literacy freebies, resources, and ideas. Happy teaching!
